How we install our concrete driveways

At Boca Raton Concrete Co, we have installed many driveways for our customers- serving the local area with pride, dedication, and expertise.


Constructing a driveway involves several steps and requires technical skill and diligence - we have honed our process over the last ten years, and you can expect your project to be managed efficiently from start to finish by our team. Concrete driveway installation typically takes between 2-7 days; this does not include the time it takes for the concrete to cure and will vary depending on the scope of the job. Here is a summary of the steps involved:


  • Driveway preparation:  The site is first prepared by clearing the area before ensuring any proper grading is drainage is put in place.


  • Excavation: Topsoil is removed by a digger to the necessary depth, dependent on the requirements. Any drainage required is installed before grading and leveling the area using compacted gravel. This ensures the site is solid before pouring the concrete.


  • Forming: Wooden boards are used to create shutters that will contain the concrete and help it to be smoothed and leveled


  • Reinforcement: Dependent on the job, we typically use steel rebar or wire mesh and add this to the forms to strengthen the concrete slab


  • Concrete Pouring: The concrete is typically delivered by a tipper truck and is in ready-mix form. We adjust the mix depending on weather conditions and specific requirements for the job. Typically, this is a water-to-cement ratio of 0.50. Once poured, we level the concrete - this slab will typically be between 4-5 inches thick.  This concrete slab forms the basis for the driveway and is common to patios and other concrete flatwork


  • Finishing: The concrete is smoothed using hand or power floats. Dependent on the finish required, we will let the concrete part cure before imprinting using our stamped concrete forms.


  • Curing: This is where the concrete will need to be left to cure and takes between 3-7 days. The concrete can accept light foot traffic after 24 hours.


  • Sealing: Once the concrete is fully cured, we will use a special sealer to help protect your new driveway from stains, UV damage, and general wear

Types of Concrete Driveways

Plain Concrete: 

That's right, the classic option is often overlooked is to use plain concrete which is poured and then smoothed. It is quicker to install as it doesn't require any special finishing or details, which also keeps down the cost. Indeed, this is the most affordable option. Maintenance is also kept low, and after sealing the concrete, this option should last upwards of thirty years provided it is given a hose down and brush down once in a while

Brushed Concrete: 

Here, we use special tools to introduce a more textured finish - this will give is a brushed or scalloped look. This texture provides more grip although it may also attract more dirt. Don't worry though, this is nothing you can't clean easily enough using a regular garden hose although a slightly higher psi power washer would be a better choice.

Cut Concrete

Stamped Concrete


This is where it starts to get more creative. Using our custom stamping designs we will add shapes and patterns onto the wet concrete as it is drying, this means they can be made to look like other materials such as brick or other nature stones. You can achieve for example a rustic cobblestone effect without having to source pavers or rely on expensive contractors to fit the stones.  We can also add custom stencils and designs or even a monogram to give you a  personalised finish.

Stamped Concrete

This is where it starts to get more creative. Using our custom stamping designs we will add shapes and patterns onto the wet concrete as it is drying, this means they can be made to look like other materials such as brick or other nature stones. You can achieve a rustic cobblestone effect without having to source pavers or rely on expensive contractors to fit the blocks. We can also add custom stencils and designs or a monogram to give you a personalised finish.

Colored Concrete

Here we can add solid colour stains to your concrete during the installation process to create contrasting colour schemes or colour to parts of it. You can use different colours, which can be an effective way to help your driveway blend in with your landscape such as lawn or pathways, and other surroundings such as your home exterior. 


We tend to see that our customers prefer natural earth tones that mimic other materials like sandstone or darker colours for a border - but you can blend and make your own custom colors. Be sure to discuss this with us before your installation

Exposed Aggregate

Aggregates are small stones, gravel or even shells that when combined with the concrete produce a more textured finish with a high grip surface. 


This is a great way to get a contemporary look for your driveway.  In terms of cost this ranks towards the higher end of the spectrum given it involves additional materials and the finishing detail involved.
